The Fisher & Paykel Evora Nasal CPAP mask offers several new advances in the mask-fitting world. Its "fits like a cap headgear" design allows you to put it on like a baseball cap in one simple movement. It also has a unique, flexible, compact floating seal that sits comfortably under the nose. This allows you to have the freedom to move throughout the night, keeping the mask perfectly in place. Sizing and Fitting

The Evora headgear is one size fits all.
The nasal seal comes in small, medium, large, and wide
- The best-fitting cushion covers the nostrils and sits to the sides of the nose but not against the edges of the nostrils
- Use a sizing guide to determine the best nasal seal size
The Evora side straps should sit just above the ears
- Adjust the crown strap to position the side straps appropriately
- Evenly adjust the side straps to secure the cushion securely but comfortably at the nose

If leaks persist, gently lift the nasal seal (cushion) away from the nose and then return it to position. Often reseating the cushion removes crinkles in the silicone and allows the cushion to reseal against the face.

FAQ

How tight should the headgear be?
The headgear should be just snug enough to hold the mask in place, but not so snug it hurts. The side straps should sit just above the ears but should not touch them. Adjust the crown strap to get the side straps positioned correctly.

Should my entire nose sit inside the nasal cushion?
No, unlike nasal pillows, your nose should not be inside the cushion. The nasal cushion on the Evora should cradle the lower half of your nose and come around the sides.

Can I wash the mask in the dishwasher?
According to the manual, no parts can safely be washed in the dishwasher. Clean all parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them air dry away from direct sunlight. Mild dish soap is an excellent choice for cleaning the Evora. Do not clean with products containing alcohol, scents, antibacterial agents, antiseptics, bleach, chlorine, or moisturizers. Wash the headgear weekly and wash the cushion (seal), frame, swivel, and flexible tube daily.

(I was lucky enough to be included in a free trial for this mask, so full disclosure there)

I'll be honest. I expected not to like this mask. I have been using a Respironics (Model: 1116700) and really like it. Unlike the masks I used for years, instead of the hose attaching in front of my face, it attaches at the top of the head, and that was great. Out of the way. So going back to this style, I expected to hate it.

It does suffer from the irritation that all masks have for me that have the hose connection up front. My CPAP is at the side of the bed, so inevitably the hose slides off the side of the bed and then it's tugging at my face. Can unseal the mask-argh. Can just wake me up with the sudden tug-argh. This mask doesn't have a swivel at the attachment, which I worried about, but that didn't turn out to be a problem at all.

So... bottom line. I didn't go back to the Respironics. Here's why: once I figured out which size of attachment to use (sidebar fact, first time ever the default size wasn't the perfect one for me) this is the most comfortable mask I ever put on. This is all personal preference of course, but I don't even feel it on my face, or at least it is less of an intrusion than any of the masks I've used. I think the interesting "baseball cap" thing helps a ton, being a stiffer frame for the mask. I like this mask, so I will have an interesting decision when it comes time to replace the ones I have now. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Easy to properly size. Nasal mask is soft, but inflates just a bit for complete comfort. Stays in place better than most masks of this type that I have tried. It is the quietest of all of those too

It was awful! I did not like it at all. Half of the time I couldn’t breath . Just not for me . Maybe it works better for others . Do not recommend in good conscience.

First impression out of the box BEFORE first night's sleep: WOW! What a relief!! No more Gecko Pad - no more nose bridge pain waking me at night and leaving its mark!!

Easy to fit, just had to look at the picture, GLAD to have gotten the full nose piece kit, and turns out medium seems to work well enough.

First 5 minute quick try & good seal.

ONE PROBLEM: Like every other mask I've used it's just too shallow and the tip of my nose rubs against the white plastic mounting flange that the nose piece hose connects to. Furthermore, that edge is very sharp and cuts the tip of my nose. After the second night of use it caused a cut on the tip of my nose to the extent that it bled. An extra 1/4 inch depth of the nose piece or 1/2 inch greater diameter of the flange would sure be nice, and smoothing the sharp edge on that flange or changing the blue mounting ring on the nice piece to overlap that knife sharp edge wouldn't be a bad idea.

THAT was after night 3. I noticed what seemed like restricted air flow on night 3 and thought it was just stuffed sinuses, but then I had the same feeling on night 4 and THEN I could feel the rubber from the MEDIUM nose piece blocking one nostril. So on night 5 I switched to the LARGE, although I knew that it would position the tip of my nose closer to the mounting flange (which it did) to the extend that by morning the laceration on the tip of my nose was enough to drip blood. The air flow was GREAT and the comfort perfect, but I couldn't continue to endure the cutting.

END OF TEST: Very very reluctantly night 6 and on I'll be back to my old discontinued mask.

Too bad; except for the one flaw it was a great relief and so very very comfortable and I was so sure I'd found the new mask I was looking for. I'm sure for a person with a smaller nose it would be great, but for me I just can't use it as is.

I like it well. The headgear worked very well for a side sleeper. The exhale was very comfortable and it worked much better than my previous Nasal CPAP mask. Very light weight and seems to be holding up well.

I have this mask, I also have it on the smallest setting on top, and it hurts my ears at night. Is there anything that I can do for that or does this come in a smaller size where it would fit higher up on my head?

This mask works great and is very comfortable as long as I am on my back. As soon as I rollover to my side it loses its alignment and wakes me up. The only way to realign it is to sit up and get it back into position and lay back down on my back. What is the best chin strap to attach to this mask so that I can switch between laying on my side or my back without having to realign?

Answer

The Evora is a very comfortable mask. You can try sleeping on the end of your pillow to avoid the mask being pushed. The purpose of Chin straps is to hold your mouth closed so the pressure does not escape. I am not sure a chin strap will assist you with your issue. This style of mask can certainly work well for sleeping on your stomach, but I may recommend a mask with the tube on the top like the ResMed N30i .
