ResMed AirFit F40 Full Face Mask

Upgrade your full-face sleep therapy experience with the innovative ResMed AirFit F40 CPAP Mask. Designed with side-sleeping in mind, the AirFit F40 is ResMed’s smallest tube-down full face mask.

With a soft silicone cushion that adapts to the face, fully flexible fabric frame and lightweight short tubing to help you sleep in any position, the F40 prioritizes both comfort and performance.

A low-profile full face mask that delivers the high seal performance of traditional over-the-nose designs, the AirFit F40 lets users have it all: compactness and effectiveness.

AdaptiSeal™ Cushion
Made completely of silicone, the AirFit F40 cushion moves and adapts to the face for a secure seal all night long. The soft silicone combines high seal performance with comfort, making it easier to stick to your sleep apnea therapy.

Flexible Frame
The AirFit F40’s low-profile frame is fully flexible and features soft fabric arm sleeves for comfort. Resting high on the cheeks yet well below the eyes, the frame leaves room for you to wear glasses.

Quick-Fit Headgear
With four adjustment points and snap on/off magnetic clips*, the AirFit F40 Headgear is easy to fit every single time.

Simply slide the headgear over your head, snap on the magnetic clips and adjust the four Velcro tabs for a secure yet comfortable fit. Removing the F40 is just as easy — pull the magnetic clips away from the mask and slide the headgear up and over your head.

*Mask magnets should be kept at least 6 inches (150 mm) away from implants or medical devices that may be adversely affected by magnetic fields. Learn more about the ResMed CPAP Masks with Magnets Safety Update.

Short Tubing with Quick-Release Elbow
For the most natural sleeping experience, the F40 Full Face Mask features a short tubing that moves with you. It provides more slack in your CPAP circuit, so you can sleep comfortably in any position.

The short tubing attaches to the frame via a quick-release elbow, ensuring fast connection and disconnection from your CPAP setup.

Multiple Headgear & Cushion Sizes
With three headgear sizes (small, standard, large) and three cushion sizes (small wide, medium, large), there’s an AirFit F40 mask for everyone.

QuietAir™ Vent
The AirFit F40’s QuietAir™ vent ring disperses exhaled air away from you and your bed partner for a more peaceful night. Located in the cushion, the vent ring can be easily removed for cleaning.

FAQ

How do I clean my AirFit F40 Full Face Mask?
Daily cleaning: cushion, vent ring, short tubing with elbow
Weekly cleaning: headgear, frame

  1. Disassemble the mask prior to cleaning. Please refer to the user guide for complete disassembly instructions.
  2. Soak the mask parts in warm water with mild soap. Shake the parts in the water and use a soft bristle brush to gently clean the holes in the vent ring.
  3. Rinse thoroughly and air dry away from direct sunlight.

The AirFit F40 should not be cleaned using a dishwasher or washing machine.

How do I find my AirFit F40 cushion size?
The cushion size (SW, M or L) is located on the bottom right side of the cushion. You can use the AirFit F40 Fitting Template to find your best-fitting cushion size.

  1. Stand in front of a mirror and place the template under your nose.
  2. Position your nose above the blue Medium cushion box. Check if your nose width and length fit into the box. Repeat the process with the purple Small-Wide and gray Large cushion box.
  3. Choose the cushion size that allows your nose to fit inside the box. If your nose fits into more than one box, choose the box that is the best fit for your nose width.

How do I find my AirFit F40 headgear size?
The F40 headgear size (small, standard or large) is located on the back of the headgear on the colored neck pad. We recommend starting off with the standard headgear, which fits most users comfortably, and then sizing up or down as needed.

What machines are compatible with the AirFit F40?
The AirFit F40 is compatible with all CPAP and BiPAP machines except the ResMed AirMini. If using the F40 with a ResMed device, make sure to select “Pillows” in the mask setting option.

Can I use the AirFit F40 if I tend to feel claustrophobic while wearing a mask?
The AirFit F40 is a low-profile, under-the-nose full face mask designed to minimize claustrophobia with its lightweight design.

I like to sleep on my stomach. Is the AirFit F40 for me?
The AirFit F40 is optimized for side and back sleeping so stomach sleepers may find better comfort with a tube-up full face mask. These masks connect the CPAP hose at the top of the head, allowing for more freedom of movement during sleep.

Subject: So far so good, some good improvements over the F30
A few things I liked about this new version of the Resmed full face mask:

1. Large headsets are now an option, great obviously to have other sizes other than small and medium, which fit like a vicegrip on my head.

2. Full silicon cushion, which was easily the biggest change and improvement in my opinion from the F30. Having hard plastic bits in the cushion made side sleeping extremely uncomfortable, because you end up having hard plastic being pushed into your cheeks and will inevitably dislodge during sleep, which leads to leaks and night awakenings. I haven't had this problem yet with the full silicon cushion conforming nicely to my face and playing nice when I push against the pillow.

3. The air vents are also whisper quiet. There's no longer a loud hiss when you point the air vents towards a pillow. Instead it's very much attenuated and I can barely hear anything even if I bury my face in my pillow. Fantastic change.

Overall I think the F40 is a great improvement over the F30.

Subject: Good and not good
I have been using an F30i before this mask. I like the softness of the full silicone cushion better. Washes better too! The headgear around the crown of my head is a bit tight without a way to adjust that part of the headgear, but the next size is was too big. My biggest issue with the F40 is the distance from the top of the cushion where you place nose to the bottom of the cushion too short. I sleep with my mouth open and I find it pulls to much causing a leak. This is not a problem I had with the F30i cushion which I feel is more spacious. Both masks have flaws, I’m just not sure which is better. I’ll give the F40 so more time and see.

Subject: F40 Fail
This design is a take off from the Dreamweaver design - which was not well received for a few reasons. Hard to fit (and I see the same complaints here) and the opening cut for the nostrils don't line up with your nostrils, and restrict airflow. This causes turbulence and a sense of having a blocked nose which tends to wake many users. Really sad, I thought RESMed would do better this time around.

How about a FULLY Silicon F20 that would form to fit better and not cause pressure marks on our faces?

Subject: Leaks alot
I was very hopeful that this mask would be a good comfortable fit. It is comfortable until the air hits it and it leaks and blows air into your eyes constantly. Tried everything, tighter, looser nothing helped Definitely not worth the money at least for me. Wife had the same issues as we got two of them

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that! We know that not every mask works for everyone, so we do have a mask assurance policy. Please contact us to discuss your options.

Subject: ResMed AirFit F40 Full Face CPAP Mask
This is the best full face mask I have ever used. I have been using an F20 AirTouch for years that was causing irritation on the bridge of my nose. With the F40 there is no contact with the nose bridge. F40 is lighter, more adjustable and more comfortable.
I have one caveat: The Large Head Gear is almost too large for me at 6 feet 200 pounds. I reordered a Standard Head Gear.

Subject: First Impressions
I like the fit of the mask, the flexibility and the size. I just have not been able to get past the tip of my nose hurting and the pimples I wake up with on it. So unfortunately not working for me.

I am sorry that mask is not working for you! Luckily, we do have a Maskl Assurance policy so please give us a call.

Subject: Mask
Thought I'd try this. It's comfortable but after a month I can't get it to stop leaking. Plus it's irritated my nose to a point that it's raw. And apparently respshop changed their mask assurance rules so now instead of being able to get a new mask I'm stuck with a $150 piece of garbage.

I am sorry this mask is not working for you! If you purchased it from Respshop, give us a call as we do have a mask assurance policy.

Question
Currently using F30 mask. What is the difference between the new F40 and the F30 I currently use.

Answer
The main difference is the AdaptiSeal cushion on the F40 which is able to move and adapt to the face more freely as well as the flexible frame, the headgear is able to be adjusted but unlike the F30 it does not have an adjustment at the top of the head.
