ResMed AirFit F40 Mask - Full Face
Upgrade your full-face sleep therapy experience with the innovative ResMed AirFit F40 CPAP Mask. Designed with side-sleeping in mind, the AirFit F40 is ResMed’s smallest tube-down full face mask.
With a soft silicone cushion that adapts to the face, fully flexible fabric frame and lightweight short tubing to help you sleep in any position, the F40 prioritizes both comfort and performance.
Best of all, with three headgear sizes (small, standard, large) and three cushion sizes (small-wide, medium, large), the ResMed AirFit F40 ensures optimal sleep therapy for everyone.
Cushion: The AirFit F40 features a 100% silicone cushion, while the AirFit F30 has a silicone cushion with a plastic backing.
Mask to hose connection: The AirFit F30 mask features an elbow swivel connection while the AirFit F40 comes with a short tubing and swivel.
Headgear: The AirFit F30 has five adjustment straps, including one at the top of the head. The AirFit F40 has four straps and lacks the top crown strap.
Daily cleaning: cushion, vent ring, short tubing with elbow
- Disassemble the mask.
- Soak the mask parts in warm water with mild soap. Avoid soaking for more than 10 minutes.
- Shake the parts in the water and use a soft bristle brush to gently clean the holes in the vent ring.
- Rinse all parts thoroughly under running water, squeezing out excess water from the headgear.
- Lay parts out to air dry away from direct sunlight.
The silicone cushion, however, may need to be replaced more frequently, typically every 2 to 3 months. Silicone naturally softens over time, which can affect its ability to create a good seal.
- Gently pull the mask away from your face and then release it, allowing the cushion seal to inflate and settle comfortably under your nose and around your mouth.
- Make sure to clean both your mask cushion and your face, as facial oils can interfere with the seal.
- Ensure you're wearing your AirFit F40 mask according to the fitting instructions in the user guide or in the videos below. The way you put on the mask significantly impacts the seal.
- Adjust your headgear as necessary.
- Try a larger or smaller cushion or headgear size.
- Replace any worn out mask parts.
I had an anode ablation so I am totally dependent on a pacemaker to make my heart beat . The magnets are too close to the pacemaker and interfere with the pacemaker.

I have had this mask for about 4 months. I won't lie, the first week of 2 was tough. I am new to CPAP, and this started out bad for me. Sore nose, pimples etc. after a couple weeks and about to give up everthing started healing up. Now I hear people talking about air leaks, I have a full beard and it works pretty good. seals real well at first, then i have to adjust once or so thru the night. The mask is really comfortable if you give it time. Also make sure you get the right size. i had to get a smaller strap to get mine right.
Changing my mask from f20, f30 and f30i, F40 finally a solution for me. Best seal and light weight. No more leakage near the nose. Side sleeper also ok.
Very good mask overall and one of the best I have tried but not perfect as it still leaks a little more than my F&P Evora but slightly more comfortable than the F&P. But I really need low leaks so I will stay with the F&P. If leaks are not too much of an issue with you than this might be your favorite mask of all time!
Love this mask. It fits great and doesn’t hurt my cheek when I sleep on my side!
This is the best full face mask I have ever used. I have been using an F20 AirTouch for years that was causing irritation on the bridge of my nose. With the F40 there is no contact with the nose bridge. F40 is lighter, more adjustable and more comfortable.
I have one caveat: The Large Head Gear is almost too large for me at 6 feet 200 pounds. I reordered a Standard Head Gear.
I have been using an F30i before this mask. I like the softness of the full silicone cushion better. Washes better too! The headgear around the crown of my head is a bit tight without a way to adjust that part of the headgear, but the next size is was too big. My biggest issue with the F40 is the distance from the top of the cushion where you place nose to the bottom of the cushion too short. I sleep with my mouth open and I find it pulls to much causing a leak. This is not a problem I had with the F30i cushion which I feel is more spacious. Both masks have flaws, I’m just not sure which is better. I’ll give the F40 so more time and see.
A few things I liked about this new version of the Resmed full face mask:
1. Large headsets are now an option, great obviously to have other sizes other than small and medium, which fit like a vicegrip on my head.
2. Full silicon cushion, which was easily the biggest change and improvement in my opinion from the F30. Having hard plastic bits in the cushion made side sleeping extremely uncomfortable, because you end up having hard plastic being pushed into your cheeks and will inevitably dislodge during sleep, which leads to leaks and night awakenings. I haven't had this problem yet with the full silicon cushion conforming nicely to my face and playing nice when I push against the pillow.
3. The air vents are also whisper quiet. There's no longer a loud hiss when you point the air vents towards a pillow. Instead it's very much attenuated and I can barely hear anything even if I bury my face in my pillow. Fantastic change.
Overall I think the F40 is a great improvement over the F30.
I really wanted to like this mask because it fits great and you can't even tell you're wearing it. I was using an F20 and for years it irritated my nose, I have tried other masks, but felt they didn't stay on right, so I had to tough it out with the F20. The first night I tried the F40 I only got about 2 hours total sleep and that's because I took this mask off and put my F20 back on. The F40 fit great but it felt like I had an air hose in my throat all night. I really wish this would have been better because after several trips to the dermatologist from the F20 irritating my nose I'll have to figure something else out.
I am sorry the mask is not working for you. Have you tried the REMZZ mask liner? https://www.respshop.com/cpap-supplies/comfort-cleaning/remzzzs-cpap-mask-liners-day-supply-p-398.html

I tried this after using an F20 mask. I liked the all silicon construction and I did find it easier to fall asleep with.
I used the F40 for about 3-4 weeks and overall it was ok. As I said it was more comfortable compared to the F20, but I would wake up every morning with a sore septum from the mask pressing up on it all night. This did get slightly better over the weeks of use, but never went away completely. If I tried to loosen the mask some when going to bed I would wake up with leaks around my nose and cheeks and need to tighten it anyway.
I also felt like there should be a medium/large size. I used the medium cushion (ordered a large cushion as well to try) and found the medium felt small around my mouth, but right for my nose. The large size fit around my mouth better, but seemed too big for my nose.
I like the fit of the mask, the flexibility and the size. I just have not been able to get past the tip of my nose hurting and the pimples I wake up with on it. So unfortunately not working for me.
I am sorry that mask is not working for you! Luckily, we do have a Maskl Assurance policy so please give us a call.
Sorry to say but I feel like I threw away my money it does not feel right after using the full face mask I have
It might work fine for someone else and maybe it just the fact that I am so used to my other mask
Thank you for your review! Luckily we do have a mask assurance policy so please call us to get you something else.
Was hoping this would be a good mask for me. Not that comfortable and air escapes around mouth. Hope it gets better. Using only a week.
Yes, give it some time. Be sure you are not over tightening the mask straps as is the urge with full face masks. Please note if the mask is quiet when you first put it on, if so, you have a good fit. Masks will leak periodically throughout the night due to nocturnal movement. Let us know before 30 days are up if this mask is not working for you.
This mask isn’t comfortable around my nose, however around my mouth it was comfortable. The mask for some reason works for 2-3 minutes the my machine shuts off. I have a res med 10.
We are sorry to hear about your experience with the F40. Please give us a call and we will be happy to give you store credit within 30 days of purchase!
This design is a take off from the Dreamweaver design - which was not well received for a few reasons. Hard to fit (and I see the same complaints here) and the opening cut for the nostrils don't line up with your nostrils, and restrict airflow. This causes turbulence and a sense of having a blocked nose which tends to wake many users. Really sad, I thought RESMed would do better this time around.
How about a FULLY Silicon F20 that would form to fit better and not cause pressure marks on our faces?
I am so sorry to hear that this mask did not work for you. Please call us as you might qualify for our 30-day Mask Assurance Policy if purchased through Respshop.
The ResMed AirFit F40 Full Face CPAP Mask hasn't been the right fit for me. Even when tightened considerably, it still leaks frequently, causing the machine to stop and waking me up multiple times throughout the night. I haven't been able to sleep comfortably on my back due to the leakage. Additionally, the mask leaves my mouth uncomfortably dry and my nostrils sore in the mornings. Despite carefully following the instructions and watching the provided video, I haven't been able to achieve a good seal or comfortable experience. I am disappointed with the performance of this mask and would not recommend it.
I am so sorry to hear about your experience with the F40! Please give us a call within 30 days of your purchase and we would be happy to give you store credit for your mask.
My sleep doctor suggested I try other mask configurations to improve my poor sleep quality. I have been using a ResMed Mirage Nasal Mask in conjunction with my ResMed AirSense 10 for about 5 years. The quality and number of hours of sleep has declined over the past couple of years without explanation.
I purchased the F40 Full Face Mask hoping it would help with the problem. It didn’t help at all. I tried to use it and found it extremely uncomfortable and ineffective. I stopped using it after 3-4 attempts. It was in the end a waste of money.
I am sorry to hear about your experience with the F40, please give us a call and you may be eligible for our 30 Day Mask Guarantee!
I was very hopeful that this mask would be a good comfortable fit. It is comfortable until the air hits it and it leaks and blows air into your eyes constantly. Tried everything, tighter, looser nothing helped Definitely not worth the money at least for me. Wife had the same issues as we got two of them
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that! We know that not every mask works for everyone, so we do have a mask assurance policy. Please contact us to discuss your options.
Thought I'd try this. It's comfortable but after a month I can't get it to stop leaking. Plus it's irritated my nose to a point that it's raw. And apparently respshop changed their mask assurance rules so now instead of being able to get a new mask I'm stuck with a $150 piece of garbage.
I am sorry this mask is not working for you! If you purchased it from Respshop, give us a call as we do have a mask assurance policy.
