PureSom Adjustable Breathe-O-Prene CPAP Ruby Chin Strap

The PureSom Ruby Adjustable Chin Strap is made of stretchable, breathable neoprene that holds the mouth closed during CPAP therapy to prevent air leaks out of the mouth. Chin straps prevent mouth opening which is the most common cause of dry mouth and high mask leak for nasal and nasal pillow CPAP mask users. This moisture wicking chin strap is adjustable at the crown of the head and at the base of the neck for a  customizable fit that is comfortable and effective.

Chin Strap Dimensions:

  • Standard = 22 to 24 inches
  • Extra Large = 26 to 28 inches

Fitting Instructions

  1. Open up the chinstrap, so it is flat, and make sure the thin strap points towards the top of the head. The wider strap will be on the bottom.
  2. Pull the chin cup over the chin.
  3. Close the top strap with the Velcro, adjust as needed.
  4. Close the wide back strap (this is sitting on the back of your neck), adjust the Velcro as needed.
  5. Your ears will sit in the ear cutouts.

The design of this chinstrap may inadvertently push your jaw back as you tighten the Velcro on the back of the neck. This may exacerbate your sleep apnea by increasing the number of obstructive breathing events. If this occurs, we recommend trying a dual-band chin strap such as the Knightsbridge Chin Strap.

FAQ

How do I clean my PureSom Adjustable RubyChin Strap?
Hand wash your chin strap in warm water with a mild detergent or baby shampoo daily to remove any sweat and/or oils that may have accumulated overnight. While there are expensive neoprene cleaning materials available, they are usually not needed.

Do I need to use a chin strap with my CPAP therapy?
Chin straps are not a crucial component of CPAP therapy and are only necessary for those having trouble keeping their mouths closed when using a nasal or nasal pillow mask. Dry mouth/throat or dry nasal passages, despite the use of a humidifier, are common indications of mouth breathing during sleep. In these instances, we recommend wearing a chin strap under the CPAP mask to help keep the mouth closed for effective therapy.

Subject: Scratchy
The velcro part at bottom of neck is scratchy. Tighten more to get an overlap which helps the irritation but then it’s too tight. The chin part comes just below the lips. Works but is uncomfortable.

If this is the best, hard to believe. Comes with no directions and not obvious how to put on. Rubbing hair off my head since large area contacts your hair right in front where you do not want to loose it. Leaves lots of marks; contrary to what others say.

I bought this chin strap after talking with a Respshop representative. It does the job, and 2 good things to note are that it doesn't leave pressure marks on your face, and the velcro doesn't get tangled in your hair.

Very comfortable to wear. Over time, the velcro will weaken, but the material is soft and doesn't leave pressure marks on the face.

I had problems with my old chinstrap but once I switched to the Carefusion chinstraps I realized that my old one (Best in Rest chinstrap) was just bad and the one I'm using now should be the standard for all chinstraps.

With my old chinstrap, it used to fall off every night. In the morning, I would notice it's not on my face anymore and I would have to find where it is on my bed. My old chinstrap didn't work at all but I was so used to it that I thought that was normal. When I changed to the Carefusion chinstrap I was so surprised that it was still on my face every morning. It does its job very well and I have never experienced it fall off during the night.

The Carefusion chinstrap is also made very sturdy unlike my old chinstrap. I can tell the material is also very nice because it is soft but it is a very strong material.

There are only two main problems I have with this chinstrap. First, it's that after I wash my hair (I have long hair), it becomes more difficult for the chinstrap to stay on my face. I air dry my hair so maybe this has to do with it. Also I don't think this is a problem with only this chinstrap; other ones would also have the same problem. Second, two visible lines show up on my face in the morning from the chinstrap. This shows how tightly the chinstrap rests on my face throughout the night. It really does its job but I sometimes feel self conscious about the lines. They usually stay for about a few hours before they fade away.

Overall I am very satisfied with my chinstrap. I think this is probably one of the best you can get on the market for this price. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a chinstrap.
